I work with manifestations
of the animate.
Everything starts with
a source subject. Maybe not exactly a subject, but rather something
that once was, something like a fossil: an empty shell, a root or
dried fruit, a piece of vegetable matter, dehydrated mushroom...This
source will then take root in my mind and gradually develop.
I'll draw it. I'll
cut it. I'll explode it, looking for volumes and undisclosed spaces.
I'll put it back together and reconstruct it. Gradually a new shape
will emerge on the paper, a shape that has freed itself from the
original living matter but which still retains its presence. Creating
the presence of a thing from the inanimate, a new evocation of "still
life" if you will.
"Behold these objects
from which we depend, since from these we can distance the night."
(Francis Ponge)
