The Invisible
Ray
I begin a work by using
a system. With random ink or dye stains I am able, by following
chance contours, to generate abstract forms. Repeating lines form
rhythmical pulses. As if by some sort of corruption to this system,
recognisable elements, such as faces, beings etc seem to emerge
from this space.
The system (process)
drawing is treated as an autonomous reality. Like a readymade. Where
the introduction of recognisable elements allows a narrative to
be built (fantasized) on top. I have titled the works (drawings
and paintings) that follow this method "The Invisible Ray". To connote
the making of art as a degenerative process. As if, when a pure
idea, living in the mind, enters the real world, it is immediately
infected and destroyed.
