For nearly ten years, my painting was mostly abstract. At the time, I was concerned with purely formal questions: composition, form, colour, outline and substance. Then, starting in 2003, I began to incorporate objects and more and more people into my painting.
That’s when I realised that my real interest lies in aspects of the human condition.
In painting, I have found the means of expression that suits me best.
I believe that, visual language -- from prehistoric art through classic and modern art to the contemporary advertising and design that so strongly mark our perceptions and visual memory – is a very rich resource for a painter to use at will, making it possible to work in a pictorial “meta-language” that transcends place and time.
Through the use of various references, styles and citations, I can convey feelings and emotions common to all human beings, from yesterday to today.
